Giclee Media Supplies is introducing three new genuine Japanese paper types coated for inkjet printing during 2008.

The new range called Moenkopi (moe-in-koe-pee) is a result of  Legion Paper USA's association with the Awagami factory in Tokushima Japan.

The Awagami Factory has been in operation since the late 1700's and continues the tradition of genuine Japanese Washi paper making. These new inkjet papers are made by the Fujimori family, master craftsman with nine generations experience in the making of Washi.

GMS's Managing Director, Anne-Marie Connelly said, "Unlike papers that are only partially made from alternative materials, this is traditional Washi coated with an unobtrusive inkjet receptor….the result is an exclusive limited edition print of far greater monetary value that that of a common photo rag as the material itself forms part of the art".

Moenkopi is available in three different types, the most exclusive being BIZAN 300 which are individually hand made sheets of mulberry fibre and hemp. The sheets have the traditional deckled edges and are sun dried. Each sheet has its own unique character and is natural white.

The range also includes the UNRYU 55 or traditional "cloud dragon paper", This thin translucent sheet is strengthened with long course fibres which are added to the mulberry fibre base in a mould. Each piece has an individual pattern.

Finally GMS will import KOZO 110, a machine made hot pressed art paper made from mulberry fibre.

The Moenkopi range are all archival products and will be imported by special order for exhibitions and limited edition artwork.
