A group of four apprentices received Printing Industries Association of Australia gold medals  for topping their courses during the Sydney Institute TAFE Awards on Thursday.
The students, Erica Mast, Brett Foran, Dion Horne and Murray Grant, received the medals after being selected for most successfully completing their nominated courses.
Erica Mast topped the Print Finishing course, Brett Foran Graphic Prepress, Dion Horne Printing and and Murray Grant Screen Printing.
Printing Industries National Director, Communications and Marketing, Joe Kowalewski, presented the medalsduring an awards ceremony at the Turner Hall, Ultimo.
"These students are to be congratulated on achieving the best passes throughout their courses and for their commitment to excellence in everything they do," he said.
"They are worthy recipients of these very prestigious awards which have a history dating back to their introduction in 1923.
"While technology has changed significantly since that time, the need for excellence in craft, commitment and ability has not and these apprentices are a glowing testament to that."
More than 100 apprentices received awards in 44 categories.
Sydney Institute Director, David Riordan, said the graduation year (2011) say the Institute celebrate two milestones of its own - its 120th anniversary and the launch of its first bachelor degree courses.
"Over the past 120 years, Sydney Institute has continued to thrive and grow, through the good economic times and bad," he said.
"Why? Because employers tell us when they choose a Sydney Institute award winner, they know their newest member of the team will be confident, work-ready and equipped with the knowledge and skills to get the job done right."
Mr Riordan said Sydney Institute was well known for its strong links to industry and often received accounts of how these links had helped award winners to get the career they really wanted.
