Océ announced today announced the launch of its new Océ ColorWave 550. Users can print, copy and scan in black & white and colour – on a single device.
The new printer is the latest in the successful range of ColorWave's that run on CrystalPoint technology. Instead of ink or toner, the CrystalPoint technology uses TonerPearls (wax balls) that are heated before being printed, so that the resulting liquid is used to create image. These printers are widely used in the office and in the sign industry to produce eco friendly prints.

Many of our customers in technical industries are looking for ways to set themselves apart in their markets and drive down cost,” says Michael Boyle, Océ International Marketing Director, Wide Format Printing Systems. “The technical drawings, maps and presentations they produce are the bread and butter of their business. Our new Océ ColorWave 550 printing system, with its ability to produce both black & white and colour documents with a semi-gloss finish on plain paper, gives our customers a commercial and financial advantage.”

Small technical enterprises and workgroups no longer need to purchase two systems – one for colour and one for black & white documents. The Océ ColorWave 550 printing system with the unique Océ CrystalPoint technology enables technical users to print black & white and colour documents on plain paper prints – all on the same system. They can also print outstanding colour presentations on plain paper, recycled paper, banners or other specialties. Prints come out dry, cut to size and ready to use indoors and on construction sites. They have a unique silk-shine look and feel that radiates quality.

Today’s technical professionals want their document systems to work intuitively with as little effort as possible. This system takes the hassle out of technical documents. It simplifies routine tasks to save time and reduce mistakes. Users can print directly from design applications using the intuitive state-of-the-art driver. The advanced job submission tool, PublisherSelect, makes it easy to manage complex document sets. Users can define up to five Copy and Scan templates with their most common settings to avoid clicking through endless menus. Whether copying, scanning or printing, the system can be set up to produce the right results at the touch of a button.

Document production can take a big chunk out of operational budgets for technical businesses. Océ CrystalPoint technology provides significant savings in this area. Being able to get high quality results on plain paper instead of coated paper saves on media costs. Using one system to do colour and black & white prints reduces the costs of consumables and IT support as well. Technical users can get an even higher return on their investment with Océ remote service. It provides prediction based preventative maintenance and real time troubleshooting to ensure the highest possible uptime. Remote reports and device updates save administrators further time.

People want to work in clean environments. The Océ ColorWave 550 ensures a healthy working atmosphere every day. The unique Océ TonerPearls® make for a totally clean system: there’s no fine dust, no odor and minimal waste disposal. As a result, there’s no negative impact on the working environment. Océ CrystalPoint technology does not use heat to fuse the image, so no chemically coated paper is needed to get high quality results. Prints also have very good de-inking capability when recycling. That’s better for people and the planet.
