All Images, previously known as Aluimage and well known in the trade as a screen printer and for its ability to print into anodised aluminium, is using the huge flatbed to replace much of its screen printing capability.
With its extra large format bed, the Arizona 550 XT is able to print on panels as large as 2.5m x 3.05m and up to 50mm thick. In a single eight-hour shift it can print 110 standard sized 1220mm x 2440mm boards, produced side by side.
Owner of All Images, Neil Cunneen, cites this productivity as the single most important reason for the switch to the Océ Arizona.
“We have recognised for some time that our screen printing services would benefit enormously by converting from traditional screen to a digital flatbed,” Cunneen says.
“The ability to change immediately from one job to the next, without any of the time-consuming manual processes required for standard screen printing, is obvious. The question for us was which printer to go for.
“We are a full service sign shop with a large proportion of trade business so it had to be something which would enable us to handle a wide variety of different jobs and different substrates, particularly corflute which we use constantly for real estate work.
“We investigated the options for a considerable time before arriving at the Océ Arizona flatbed, based on its reputation in the trade and its excellent, photographic reproduction. We believe it’s important also to buy a printer with a strong investment in the market - that will be around for a long time to come. The Océ Arizona range, as market leader, fits into that category.”
“The only question in our minds was which version to buy. In this Océ were excellent in analysing our requirements and then presenting a solid case for the additional productivity available to us with the Océ Arizona 550 XT and its larger table.
“The 550 XT model is 24-hour rated which means we can easily work it over two shifts for greater productivity.”
To give All Images additional capacity, Neil Cunneen installed the roll media option that comes with the Océ Arizona range. This allows the company to print roll jobs unattended overnight. He also opted for the print white option to allow printing on coloured substrates and to add real white to transparent backlit substrates.
“A huge advantage that the large table has given us is the ability to print 1220mm x 2440mm boards two up. As the printer finishes printing the first board, you can take it off and set up the next board while the printer continues printing the second board.
“A big bonus for us has been the minimisation of downtime. The Océ Arizona is a real workhorse that almost never stops. Our trade work is booming particularly among smaller operators who can now access cutting edge technology without the investment required. In this regard we have have received business leads from Océ.
“The Océ assistance has been sensational. From the beginning their approach was to treat us as partners in the process, to ensure we got the most appropriate solution for our output. I think this is a commendable approach and it also goes a long way to ensuring they have a happy customer.”
As a footnote, Cunneen Signs in Sydney, run by Neil’s brother David, is now also planning to instal an Océ Arizona flatbed.
