Businesses searching for paper made with a carbon neutral footprint, can now find it in a new Océ product the company describes as “the ultimate sustainable plan printing paper

”Named Océ Black Label Zero, it uses Australian made paper, certified under NCOS (National Carbon Offset Standard) as carbon neutral, with net zero carbon emissions.

Product Manager, Océ-Australia Limited, Carl Richardson, says Océ Black Label Zero, replaces a former product, simply known as Black Label.

box-v2b“The difference is that the paper we use is now made in Australia carbon neutrally, ie with net zero CO2 emissions” says Richardson. “It means that buyers, designers and printers who want to make a difference to climate change can buy a paper that helps them minimize their carbon footprint.”

The paper is:

• Made using NCOS certified carbon neutral paper

• Certified Australian Made

• FSC® Certified

• Elemental Chlorine Free

® Forest Stewardship Council A.C. (FSC-AUS-0031)

“The paper we use has undergone a total life cycle assessment (LCA) “ says Richardson.
LCA involves the compilation and evaluation of the inputs, outputs and the potential environmental impacts of the paper throughout its life cycle, measuring all emissions from sourcing components of the paper through to the delivery and disposal of the paper. Any residual emissions have been offset through the purchase of certified carbon offsets.
A carbon offset represents a reduction in greenhouse gases, or enhancement of greenhouse gas removal from the atmosphere, relative to a business-as-usual baseline. Carbon offsets are tradeable and often used to negate (or offset) all or part of another entity’s emissions.

The paper used for Océ Black label Zero is Australian made (certified), and is manufactured and converted in Victoria. The mill dates back to 1937 when it was first established. A cycle of continuous capital investment since that time ensures that it remains a state of the art integrated paper making facility with the latest of these updates being the Pulp Mill Upgrade.
The upgrade was completed in December 2008 in conjunction with the reconstruction of the wood yard to support the projected increase volumes of wood.  The rebuilt bleach plant is now producing ECF (Elementally Chlorine Free) Pulp, and has delivered significant improvements in emissions as well as further savings in water usage and increased usage of renewable energy.

The FSC is an international, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation with a mission to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests.
