A group of 10 NSW companies made a significant contribution to workplace safety recently by enrolling 26 staff members in Printing Industries new Apply First Aid course.

The scheduled one-day intensive course in February had to be split into three courses at two locations over three days because of the overwhelming demand.

"It was a very good problem to have to resolve and everything went like clockwork," Printing Industries National Manager, Learning and Development, Ian Walz, said.

"We ended up holding two courses at our Auburn office and one on-site at GEON because of their group enrolment.

"Our courses are designed for maximum learning and interaction, so we keep them small to achieve this goal and give our trainer the opportunity to achieve this."

Companies with participating staff were Western Graphics, Assta Labelhouse, STI Lilyfield, Liverpool Printing Service, Allkotes Pty Ltd, GEON Group, Advanced Press, DPR Printing Services, Momento and Candida Stationery.

"The obvious demand and comments from participants suggests that our new course has certainly struck a chord and is seen as a good use of business resources in this very important workplace safety issue," Mr Walz said.

The graduates were:  Helen Kuzmanovic (Western Graphics); John Fiumara, John Roach and Matt Peterson (Assta Labelhouse); Boban Zafirov, Darryl Gaul, Dave Mendis, Christine Ellston and Cathy Alderson (STI Lilyfield); Suzanne Strudwick (Liverpool Printing Service); Damien Reeves and Giuseppe Di Blasi (Allkotes Pty Ltd); Kevin Coughlan, Allan Dalcik, David Johnson, Shelly Gao, Kylee Amor, Lisa Caruana and Dean Mihaere (GEON Group); Amy Zhang (Advanced Press); Alyson Schutz (DPR Printing Services); Geoff Hunt  and Marbeen Felipe (Momento); Lindsay Napier, Meead Alhaddad and Remon Merkose (Candida Stationery).

The next First Aid course has been scheduled for Thursday 16 June at Printing Industries Auburn office. The nationally accredited Apply First Aid course is a tailored program that focuses on the common hazards people can encounter in printing company environments.
