Cairns and Port Douglas-based printing firm Lotsa Printing has become dux of the ISO 12467 colour world by not only passing its ISO audits, but also scoring the highest ever compliance score in the ANZ region for the Port Douglas offset operation.
“It’s an astonishing achievement – 95% ISO overall compliance score for Lotsa Port Douglas, with 100% for ‘print quality;’ and 83% for the Cairns operation,” says David Crowther of Colour Graphic Services who implemented the Mellow Colour certification in September 2014 and conducted the stringent audit last month. “We congratulate Peter Martin and his team for achieving remarkable progress in offset at Port Douglas and an extremely good effort for the first audit at Cairns, which is all-digital.”
Because the Cairns operation is all-digital, mostly HP wide format signage and proofing to match the Port Douglas site 65 kilometers away; it is certified ISO 12647-8, the standard for Validation Print for all-digital workflows. This was the first such audit for this category of Mellow Colour ISO 12647 Proficient Printers. Port Douglas, being mainly offset with a Ryobi 925UV is certified ISO 12647-2 which is ‘offset lithographic processes.’
“No one has achieved an ISO audit score of 95% in Australia or New Zealand before,” notes Crowther,” Peter and his staff deserve huge credit for persistent improvements to processes, checks and colour culture.”
This result is more than just kudos for Lotsa Printing, as Peter Martin explains: “The ISO process has been excellent value to Lotsa; we just do not get any colour issues any more these days and staff sell with great confidence!”
The audit consists of reviewing past production runs, measuring printed results and comparing them with ISO parameters using Mellow Colour PrintSpec software. A detailed report is then produced that pinpoints any areas that need attention. Lotsa’s excellence has also enabled the firm to become part of the exclusive ‘Mellow Colour 100 Club’ where a dated, tested production job scores 100% in multiple categories.
