The world’s biggest print machinery and technology exhibition, drupa 2016, arrives in Sydney on Wednesday 7 October via a one-off Australian stop-over briefing at the Sydney Opera House.

The whistle-stop visit co-ordinated by Printing Industries, will for the first time, bring to Australia the driving forces behind the world’s biggest print machinery exhibition.
Mr Werner Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf and Dr Markus Heering, Managing Director of the VDMA Printing and Paper Technology Associations and the VDMA trade association for Security Systems will provide keynote addresses.
The Sydney Opera House is the only Australian venue on the 40 event, five continent tour and the only opportunity Australian printers will have to hear first-hand on what to expect at drupa.
Printing Industries National Director Communications, Technology and Creative Services, Joe Kowalewski, said that in addition to keynote presentations by Mr Dornscheidt and Dr Heering, Lufthansa staff will be on hand for a short travel presentation and to discuss flight and accommodation needs.
“This one event will encapsulate the traditional drupa briefing and press conference in one event,” he said.
“Information on ticketing options as well as a pre-briefing on what the exhibition, being marketed as representing print and cross media, will be offering.”
Mr Kowalewski said the exhibition would feature six distinct technology groupings - print, functional printing, packaging production, multichannel, 3D printing and green printing.
“Print will feature printers and suppliers, large format printing, digital packaging printing, binding on demand, postpress and prepress, UV/Latex inkjet technologies, printed interior decoration, converting and packaging, screen printing and digital solutions,” he said.
“Packaging Production will occupy more than 25,000 Sq m, bigger than most industry trade fairs, and will include printed electronics, security techniques, ecolution, individualisation, convenience solutions, object hyperlinking, flexibility and sensory marketing.
“Functional printing, using luminescent or electrically conductive substances on all kinds of surface, will have a major presence providing new opportunities for printers via multilayer structures, OLED, conductive inks, printed electronics, smart labels, flexible displays and organic printing.”
Mr Kowalewski said the growing trend in customisation would be covered by the Multichannel area focussing on what’s available today and what’s ‘coming soon’ with these rapidly developing technologies. This includes mobile content/communication, phygital (integrated and seamless marketing campaigns combining both the physical/real and digital/virtual worlds); dynamic storytelling, single source publishing, IT solutions interfacing, ePaper, database publishing and Content Management Systems.
“3D printing will also have a presence along with Green Printing which will focus on energy efficiency, ethical consumption, clean tech, ecolution ‘green and social’, sustainable innovation, media production & marketing; recycling, certified printing materials and eco-labelling,” he said.
Mr Kowalewski said the cocktail style briefing will be held in the Utzon Room at Sydney Opera House from 6-8pm on Wednesday 7 October. Attendees must be pre-registered by Thursday 1 October via this link.
