Auckland sign business Falcon Signs won three gold medals and two silvers, including the People’s Choice award, while The Signshop Nelson won three golds, two silvers and two bronze medals at the NZ Sign & Display Awards held during the NZSDA conference in Tauranga. Toby Marsh of Signbiz in Christchurch was named Apprentice of the Year 2019.

Falcon Signs, based at Swanson in West Auckland, took home three gold medals for: The People’s Choice Award; Sign Written Vehicles – Non Digital; and Custom Wrapped Vehicles. The company also won two silver medals.

 Signshop Nelson was awarded three golds – for Sign Written Vehicles - Digital; Original In-house design; and Work by an Apprentice (Nick Lightfoot); as well as two silver medals and two bronze.

Other gold medal winners included: Kustom Design Studio (2), Signtech the Signmasters (2) TruckSigns (2), Capitol Signs, Signbiz, South Island Screen Printers and Horton Signs.

Apprentice of the Year Toby Marsh (2nd from left) thanked his colleagues at Signbiz.

“Signage has offered me the opportunity to mix my creative side and my passion for cars on a daily basis in amongst also producing and installing signage at some of the biggest companies in NZ - such projects have had me work alongside Greg Murphy designing and producing graphics for the cars he has recently campaigned through to helping many of my mates stand out on track or in forests in their race cars,” Marsh said on Facebook.

“I couldn’t be any happier to have been awarded as the New Zealand Sign & Display Association apprentice of the year for 2019. A massive thanks to Jim and Paul of Signbiz who have allowed me to grow and indulge at the top of our industry and our team environment is something to be envied! Super grateful that Signbiz put the team up at the annual NZSDA awards in Tauranga to support me which made for one rad weekend and to Samantha for putting up with all the late nights I devote to my job plus my family and friends that continue to support me in what I do, cheers to you!”
