The arrival of a new Sei laser cutting machine from Italy at Mulford Plastics Dandenong opens a whole range of new possibilities for Mulfords customers.  Sheet cut to size has been a staple offering in plastic sheet distribution for many years.  But this new equipment, with its capabilities to import CAD files and convert sheet into complicated shapes, with curves and holes, with absolute precision takes the business to another level.

“This is a terrific investment in technology that we have made on behalf of our customers” said Victorian State Manager, Steve Baker.  “We have made an investment in state of the art equipment that most of our customers would find  hard to do on their own.  But now they can access that technology through us, allowing them to service the needs of their customers in a highly efficient way.  It is an exciting development for us, and certainly gives us something new and different in our offer”.

The laser cutting service is available from the beginning of April in Melbourne, and elsewhere through the national network of Mulford Plastics branches in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

The new machine will cut sheet in sizes up to 3000mm x 1500mm, and is able to do laser engraving (etching) as well as polished edge finish on acrylic sheet in thicknesses up to 60mm.  “I am certain that customers will quickly see the benefits of going straight from an electronic design to a finished, polished part direct from their supplier, without the hassle of cutting and edge-finishing themselves”, Baker said.  “The customers can concentrate on the real value-adding that they do in design and fabrication”.
