FESPA has announced the programme for its popular Showcase Theatre (1st April to 3rd April 2008 at 10:30h to 16:30h) at this year’s FESPA Digital Printing Europe event in Geneva.

The event will offer visitors a forum in which to concentrate on new technologies, applications and opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to hear world-leading print and associated industry authorities discuss a variety of issues and consider the future for large format.

FESPA managing director Frazer Chesterman comments: “The sessions are designed to support printers on a range of topical issues of interest to them. The free sessions will feature a number of respected industry professionals covering a wide range of topics, aimed at helping visitors understand the opportunities in the digital printing market to help them grow their businesses, provide creative and value-added solutions and become more profitable.”

Expert consultant, award-winning screen-printing professional and author of FESPA’s own Planet Friendly Guide, Michel Caza will discuss the environmental issues faced by today’s printers on the Showcase Theatre’s ‘Green’ day, Thursday 3rd April.  With the ever-increasing focus on the environment, this day will feature sessions from a number of specialists with the aim of helping printers better understand the issues and how to make their production more environmentally sustainable.

Paul Machin, industrial chemist and lawyer specialising in European health, safety and environmental law and advisor to the European Union Environmental Agency on best environmental practices, will discuss REACH. As the most comprehensive piece of legislation to be produced by the European Union, the session is key for every printer and supplier who sells any product into the EU.

Professor Suren Erkman, founder and director of the Institute for Communication and Analysis of Science and Technology (ICAST), will explain the concept of industrial ecology. The session will explain that this is more than an environmental approach - it is part of an overall effort to design and implement a wider sustainability strategy.

Other seminar topics will explore areas such as digital ink applications, achieving flexibility through technology, superwide digital printing, colour separation and film and software information and colour management among others.

FESPA’s Corporate Communications Director Marcus Timson will also hold a Question & Answer session on FESPA’s Wide Survey, the pan-European research into the digital wide-format printing marketplace conducted in association with InfoTrends. The session will give attendees the opportunity to further discuss key areas of business development, principal commercial and technological concerns, main growth applications, investment in digital output and workflow technology and the future of the industry in general.

Two debates are also included in this year’s programme. The Digital Debate, chaired by industry analyst and editor of FESPA World, Val Hirst, will see a number of industry authorities respond to and debate questions on digital’s role in the print industry. The Green Debate, chaired by Paul Machin, will provide the setting for stimulating discussions on environmental issues faced by today’s printers.
