Colour Graphic Services’ David Crowther, the ISO 12647 implementation and auditing specialist, has a new image to reflect the increasing scope of colour management services offered.

Previously known as ‘The Colour Captain’ and responsible for bringing many Australian and New Zealand offset printers up to ISO 12647 spec; Crowther will henceforth be branded as ‘The Colour Doctor.’

“It’s what we do,” says Crowther. “More and more I am called into diverse graphic businesses with colour issues requiring a cure and on-going treatment. It goes beyond ICC profiling and ISO 12647 and covers machine-to-machine matching; hitting special brand and logo colours right first and every time and training up operators to be ‘colour nurses.’ The reach is now beyond offset and into wide and grand format, digital presses, labels, flexo packaging and photographers/designers. This means we work comfortably in both CMYK and RGB worlds.”

Colour Graphic Services was established by Crowther in 2011 following a successful career in print colour management, teaching and proofing with DES, CyraChrome, Dainippon Screen and as a trade-qualified scanner operator. The company represents the prestigious Mellow Colour PrintSpec colour quality reporting system which is deployed world-wide by major brands to ensure colour consistency from disparate print providers in many countries and using diverse equipment.

The company also supplies tools for colour management including X-Rite measuring instruments and software, JUST Normlicht standardized lighting systems, Pantone products and Eizo colour-accurate monitors. With CHROMAtrain courses, Crowther can also teach small groups the art of successful colour management.

“We are a small company but provide a vital service to anyone requiring critically-accurate and consistent colour reproduction. From just a basic ‘colour health check’ up to intensive care where colour has drifted into a coma, we guarantee to fix the issues or it’s free. Of course, as in medicine, the best cure is prevention, by becoming ISO 12647 proficient and maintaining certification by six-monthly check-ups. But if your colour is in casualty – who are you going to call?”
