DES will be demonstrating a range of proofing and colour management solutions at PacPrint13 in a display designed to help its customers ‘stand out from the crowd’ by meeting market demands for exceptional colour and quality – while maintaining their profit margins.

Leading its display of diverse range of hard proofing solutions will be offerings from partners CGS and EFI, including a recent addition to their vast product range – CGS FLEX PACK//Web. This ‘turnkey solution’ has been specifically designed for flexible packaging proofing and mock-up production and, says DES Sales Director Russell Cavenagh, provides the answer to accurate packaging proofing.
“CGS FLEX PACK//Web is an exceptionally flexible solution which features a wide range of spot colours and choice of packaging substrates from shrink wrap to cardboard,” he explains. “Visitors to PacPrint will be amazed at the cost-effectiveness of this system, which runs on industry standard hardware – like the Roland VS series printers we’ll be pairing it with at PacPrint – and the quality and colour intensity which can be achieved using CGS ‘XG’ , or extended gamut, inks.”
There will be new solutions, too, from EFI, which has released their newly named V.5 software ‘Fiery XF’ to take over from the well-known Colorproof XF and Bestcolor software packages.   “From wide format to super wide format, EFI has a colour managed workflow to suit the needs of every business,” Cavenagh says. “Fiery XF is a highly flexible and scalable high-speed RIP and colour management tool which is now used in more than 75,000 sites worldwide. At PacPrint13, we’ll be demonstrating it with the Epson 7900NUV, the standard in proofing printers.”
Another leading colour proofing printer will be making its PacPrint debut on the DES stand, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF 6450 aqueous printer which, Cavenagh says, is set to become a serious player in the colour proofing market. “With its onboard 250 GB drive and the 12 colour Lucia ink set, plus optional built-in spectrophotometer, the 6450 has an extremely large colour gamut and advanced colour management capabilities which will create plenty of interest.”
Soft proofing, too, will be a focus, with JUST virtual proofStation. “This press-side viewing station creates an exact viewing environment match between monitors and press sheets, saving time and reducing costs by improving communication and coordination in the colour decision process,” says Cavenagh, “and, with options for one or two 27 inch Eizo displays the JUST virtual proofStation can be customised to suit all printing requirements.”
Rounding out the company’s offering in this space are the latest colour measurement and management solutions from market leaders Pantone and X-Rite.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year Pantone has updated the Pantone Plus series which includes a complete collection of colour tools that support creativity from design to production, and these will be showcased on the DES stand.
“With 1,677 colours and the Pantone Colour Manager software, this solution integrates Pantone colours into popular design software packages including Adobe® Creative Suite® 6 and QuarkXPress® 9, while also giving users the ability to create custom Pantone colour profiles for accurate colour reproduction and visualisation,” Cavenagh explains.
“We’ll also be featuring Pantone’s value bundles, which include the Pantone Essentials and Portable Guide Studio, in a redesigned carry cases that can easily store up to nine Pantone guides, and the recently redesigned Reference Library which elegantly displays the entire Plus Series library.
“Visitors to our PacPrint stand will also be able to see the next generation of X-Rite colour measurement equipment, X-Rite eXact, which takes into account the new business needs and dynamics of the global supply chain.
“X-Rite eXact enables printers and packaging converters to truly understand, control and manage colour across their businesses and is completely flexible, so it can be customised to suit specific business needs. It really is the next step in state of the art colour measurement.”
