A new software product that allows swift, efficient design of packaging, operating in close conjunction with the Océ Arizona flatbed printer and the Océ ProCut cutting table, will be a highlight of the Océ exhibit at the VIIE in Sydney.
EngView Package Designer Suite V5 is now being marketed by Océ as a natural partner to its well known hardware products.

The suite is an integrated CAD/CAM environment for structural design and prototyping of folding carton and corrugated packaging, consisting of a set of modules supporting the entire design process - from concepts, to samples, to converting tools.  It is sold in a set of specific module bundles corresponding to the needs of different packaging professionals and companies and is fully compatible with Adobe Illustrator.

The award-winning parametric design technology enables the creation of custom libraries of resizable designs and components, allowing improvements to quality and productivity through reuse.

Océ Product Manager for Wide Format Systems, Steven Badger, says the integration of Package Designer and Adobe Illustrator and the functionality for importing external 3-D objects speed up the creation of structural and graphic designs, enhancing the efficiency of the design process.

“The EngView software is established worldwide”, says Badger. “It is widely recognised as the easiest to learn and use product - backed by reliable and responsive customer support.

“It’s a natural fit with the Océ Arizona family which can print on practically any packaging substrate. The printed product can then be cut to size on the Océ ProCut. It can create perfect packaging prototypes or 3D point of purchase displays.

“Not only is EngView great in assisting with easy design it can help drive more business as customers can create exciting prototypes that generates more work for them,” he says

EngView Package Designer Suite is tailored to the needs of professional designers with specific focus on ease of use, flexibility and power. A full set of intuitive drafting tools and transformations, specially configured for packaging design, enables designers to solve any task within a few simple operations.

A comprehensive library of more than 1,500 ready-to-use parametric designs (including ECMA and FEFCO, POP and POS displays and X-Board type standards) is provided. Live parametric components from the library can be used by drag and drop to greatly reduce drafting time and ensure quality.

In work with imported structures, EngView Package Designer can search for the closest matches available in its library of resizable designs. This functionality saves time in the process of design or re-design.

3-D visualization assists with verification of structure, correct placement of graphics, and folding sequencing. To streamline the design process, users can import external 3-D models of the products for which structural design is being created. Once a part of the project, they can be smoothly assembled into the 3-D packaging model to help define a well-designed structure. Virtual models can be sent to customers for review and approval.

Features include EngView Project Organizer, a product data management (PDM) system that maintains a database of all files, documents, orders and communication related to customer projects.  Simple to set up, it’s an easy-to-use solution for companies without a PDM system.

Another feature, EngView Library Creator is for designers of custom libraries of resizable designs and parametric components. It includes EngView technology for variational and parametric design. The process comprises two stages: the creation of parametric components and the assembly of components into complete resizable designs by simple drag and drop. All resizable designs and components can be used directly in EngView Package Designer. A library of ready-to-use parametric components is included.

Océ will demonstrate the productive relationship between the software and its award-winning Arizona flatbed inkjet printer series and the Océ ProCut cutting system at the forthcoming Visual Impact Expo in Sydney, illustrating the powerful features of both units.

Steven Badger says the Océ Arizona range, acknowledged as the best-selling flatbed printer in the world, this year notched up its 3,000th sale for Océ worldwide. More than 100 have been sold in Australia and New Zealand.

“The combination offers unmatched versatility for rigid and flexible media applications on white, transparent and coloured media and is great for such things as signage, architectural fitouts, exhibition graphics, prototyping, short run digital packaging, art reproduction, point of sale and fascia display panels.

“The EngView software is yet further strengthening of the Océ Arizona/ProCut platform to the packaging and graphics industries.,” he says.

EngView Package Designer is available in Australia through Océ.
