Epson as we all know is recognised for it’s leadership position in the photo printing and proofing markets with their range of Stylus Pro machines. Then a couple of years ago the company announced the Epson Stylus Pro GS6000, their first machine designed for eco solvent inks and the outdoor market. The GS6000 found a ready market and quickly took a slice of the market from the other Japanese heavyweights.

Epson as you may well know also supply some of these other heavyweights with their print heads.

Then last year came the SureColor SC-30600 which is currently being well received by the local and international market.

Now, at drupa 2012 the company has announced a far wider range of outdoor machines in the SureColor range with the obvious intention of being the dominant player in outdoor as well as indoor.

It’s also been revealed that the company has increased it’s staffing for this new range by 30% and
is working on print engines and inks for the commercial print market. It has also developed a new printhead optimised for commercial print that can handle the more viscous ink, which is more akin to offset and flexo inks.

The new range includes the new four/five-colour SureColor SC-S50600, a 64" (1.6m) roll-fed wide-format printer providing speeds up to 50sq m/hr.

The SureColor SC-S70600 is an eight/ten-colour printer and includes white and metallic ink. It is a 64" (1.6m) roll-fed printer and features Epson's UltraChrome GSX Ink and the new Thin Film Piezo print-head to provide resolutions up to 1,440 x 1,440dpi. It offers speeds up to 27.3sq m/hr in eight-colour high-speed mode, and 4.1sq m/hr with metallic ink.

Other smaller models were also announced that target primarily the CAD and GIS market.
