Whilst we have some encouraging news from a some major Japanese machinery manufacturers to say that they have not suffered damage or injury, we should also be conscious that even if the factories and employees have not been affected, we may still suffer delivery delays through damaged transport links.
Also, there must be numerous manufacturing plants that supply consumables and machinery components for the OEMs, so there are still many gray areas of concern as to the continuity of supply for our local industry.
There is also the likelyhood that some Japanese goods could rise in price if there are to be shortages.
