Armed with his new company Civic Media and his VUTEk 2360 solvent printer, Adam Middleton went all out earlier this year to get Civic Media off to a flying start.

As most Queenslanders will know, the annual Ekka (the Royal Queensland Agricultural Show) is perhaps the biggest event in the state and the print contract is just as big. Civic Media won the tender and according to Adam, “it

was like jumping into the deep end for my wife Lauren and myself. We are a small team but we not only met the terms of the contract but we are hoping for a repeat next year.”

Now, five months after the event, they have another VUTEk 2360 being installed to help with the daily rush to meet other clients deadlines and hopefully, if they win next year’s Ekka tender, to make life a bit easier for the small but growing company.

Formed in January 2010 and with this year’s Ekka opening in May, the couple worked many 24 hours days in order to meet the deadlines.

Adam said that many orders were required within 24 hours from order time (especially when it was getting near Ekka opening days).  “We were more than happy to run 24 hours a day to accommodate these deadlines.  Some orders were delivered on site less than 3 hours from order time. We did hire five temporary staff for the job.

“The tender included a wide range of signage  including banner mesh wrap, entry booth wraps, menu boards,  barrier wraps, show jump wings, direction boards, vinyl cut stickers, banners, sign refurbishments and 100’s of Corflute signs.

The actual contract included:

Corflute = 400 sqm
Recycled corflute = 160 sqm
Banner vinyl = 238 sqm
Banner mesh = 4500 sqm
Foam pvc = 110 sqm
All to be installed and de installed,

"Since finishing the Ekka we have done over 10800 sqm of printed product and our second printer should be installed later this month.  We also did a lot of sign refurbishment and recycling of last year’s signage in order to keep a minimum impact on the environment.  We met many fantastic people from the RNA staff while doing this job, and it was a fantastic experience to help bring the show together."
