Inaugural Award recognises excellence and innovation in digital printing in Asia.
HP has announced the winners of the inaugural Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) HP Digital Print Awards 2008, in recognition of outstanding achievements and innovations in print and label and packaging industries across the region. The Awards were presented at the APJ HP Indigo Print Awards gala dinner, held in conjunction with the InfoTrends Digital Printing Seminar in Singapore on 27th August.

Aimed at inspiring print businesses to embark on the transition towards digital printing, the Awards attracted over 200 submissions across 12 countries in the region and were spread across eight categories.

Award winners were presented with trophies in the presence of 300 invited guests from the digital print community and winning entries were showcased at the event. These entries will also be exhibited at the HP Indigo Centre of Excellence as the best in categories. The category winners are:

Winning entries were selected based on their degree of innovation and creativity, marketing appeal, use of digital technology, paper selection, use of ink and colour, finishing and packaging and overall aesthetics.

David Minnett Managing Director Group Momentum said of his Award, “it is always great working with imaginative clients like the team at Curtis Jones & Brown challenging the boundaries of what can be achieved in digital print especially with our new HP Indigo 5500. In the case of the Janssen-Cilag detail aid that won the Award for Books & Manuals Printing as soon as I saw the final printed result I knew it was a stand out item and one that my digital print services team can be very proud of producing.”

Hally Labels New Zealand took out the award for Labels and Flexible Packaging.  Director Roger Watt says they are “delighted to have won.  Innovation and quality are very important to us and the jobs we submitted are indicative of the range of work we produce.   It is fantastic to be rewarded for our commitment to producing the best quality labels and packaging.  The Award is recognition for our entire team and has been a real boost to those who operate our HP Indigo ws4050 press.”

Shane Lucas HP Director HP Graphic Arts South Pacific congratulated the winners saying the quality of entries was impressive.  “It is heartening to see the high quality of entries from the ANZ region and I extend my congratulations to the winners of these inaugural awards.  There were also a number of ANZ entrants who were runners-up in their categories indicating the level of creativity and innovation in digital printing in our region.”

ANZ runners-up were – Group Momentum (Marketing Collateral), Momento Pro (Limited Editions & Art Reproductions), Picpress (Photobooks and Events & Campaigns), Soar Printing (Packaging), Supastik (Labels & Flexible Packaging), and RFID N Print (Specialty Printing).

Judging was conducted by a panel comprising renowned executives from the graphic arts, packaging and media industries. They include:
