Doming, where a '3D' clear and durable resin is applied to labels, decals and products, was very popular in the 1980s and 90s and is making a strong comeback, driven by Liquid Lens of the USA - represented in Australia by GJS.
Starting as a manually-applied polyeurethane resin applied to solvent-printed labels and decals, Doming today is scalable up to automated mass production and across many applications. The principle remains the same, the resin 'clings' to the image and, as it spreads and finds the hard edge of the print, it stops there and is ready for curing. Similar in effect to 'high-build' UV varnish, true doming is harder and can reach 4mm clear build-up in a two-step apply and cure process, rather than multiple passes.
Domed products have remained popular in the Australian Promotional Products sector through companies such as Bright Promotional Products.
Liquid Lens has nearly three decades of experience perfecting doming technology and resin products. The company has expanded its global reach with a new e-commerce website, , designed to enable accurate and seamless product selection and purchasing.
Founded in 1998 by Managing Director Steve Hastie, Liquid Lens has become synonymous with high-quality doming solutions. Its commitment to innovation and customer support has established Liquid Lens as the go-to resource for businesses investing in domed resin products.
Doming is a process that applies a polyurethane resin layer to a printed item, creating a durable, three-dimensional finish. This simple and inexpensive process enhances the visual impact of products such as labels, logos, badges, promotional items, decals and signs, making them resistant to scratching, fading and weather.
Hastie says: “We’ve seen many developments since starting the business and are continually finding new applications for resin doming. From labels to art pieces, promotional materials to gel number plates, we provide and support all the equipment and consumables necessary to achieve stunning results. One thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to quality in our products and service.”
