No more toner - Epson to phase out laser MFPs to focus on inkjet

Epson will end global sales of its laser-toner printers and add new inkjet multi-function printers (MFPs) to its business printer range as part of the company’s commitment to investing in sustainable technologies.

“The move coincides with the beginning of the rollout of Epson's new range of business inkjet multi-function printers (MFPs) and the company announcing it will end the sale and distribution of laser printer hardware in its last remaining Asian and European markets by 2026. Explaining these decisions, the company cites the greater potential of inkjet to make meaningful advances in sustainability. Epson will continue to support customers by supplying consumables and repair parts after it ceases sales of laser printer hardware.”

Koichi Kubota, general administrative manager of Epson's Sales & Marketing Division said: "We've long been committed to sustainable inkjet technology and have now decided to phase out sales of laser printer hardware. As a company we're totally committed to sustainable innovation and action, and inkjets simply use less energy and fewer consumable parts. While laser printers work by heating and fusing toner to a page, Epson's Heat-Free inkjet technology consumes less electricity by using mechanical energy to fire ink onto the page.

"Our printing business will from now put the focus on inkjet, leveraging our propriety technology to deliver efficient, sustainable print solutions for our partners and end users."

The new Epson Enterprise range

Epson has began rolling out its new range of office inkjet MFPs. "Leveraging the company's proprietary piezo Heat-Free line-head technology, the new WorkForce Enterprise AM-Series is an important addition to Epson's business print portfolio," it said. "The new range provides print speeds of 40-60ppm, addressing the mid-range speed market and complementing the rest of the Epson business inkjet lineup.

"With a compact footprint and lightweight design, the products help limit resources used during production and shipping. High-yield ink packs also reduce material usage, shipping, storage and end-of-use management of consumables, as well as reducing downtime for routine maintenance."

Led by the Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, the worldwide Epson Group generates annual sales of more than JPY 1 trillion.
