drupa 2020 ticket shop opens as drupa world tour takes off

Tickets are now available for drupa 2020, with 1,800 exhibitors from 50 countries, including at least 400 first-time exhibitors, expected at the world’s largest printing industry trade show that takes place 16-26 June 2020 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Organisers also announced the start of the ‘drupa world tour.’


“From now until spring 2020, our delegation will be inviting top decision-makers to 35 events to explain on site the concept of drupa 2020, presenting current industry trends and providing first-hand information on the focal points of technology development in print and packaging,” says a drupa press release. “The tour plan runs through ten Asian countries and a dozen events in North and South America, Eastern Europe and North Africa. This unique global marketing initiative is planning to attract 260,000 visitors from 183 countries to our exhibitors. Wherever you live and work - we will not be far away in the next few months!”

During the last tour, delegates covered 440,000 flight kilometres. Events, press conferences and congresses are on the agenda in regions across the world. From Argentina to Vietnam, Mexico to Nepal, China, India, Taiwan, Russia, Malaysia, as well as events in the USA (Chicago, Dallas and Minneapolis) and Toronto, Canada.

The drupa ticket office opened last week, giving visitors the opportunity to plan their journey and their stay in drupa city from 16 to 26 June 2020 - and to secure early booking discounts from airlines. “One thing is certain: our supporting programme will be guided by the motto "educating, entertaining, engaging" and will offer an extremely diverse range of lecture formats in 5 special forums - from the first to the last day of the fair,” say the organisers.

“In a total of 35 countries, the drupa tradefair management and top decision-makers from the industry will from now until spring 2020 be presenting the concept, the orientation and the supporting programme with focus topics. They will also provide information about global megatrends and their impact on our industry. Increasing networking and automation are continuing with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data approaches and the new Platform Economy business models. Connectivity is enabling faster order processing and greater involvement of connected customers. And last but not least, environmental awareness is increasing among customers and manufacturers worldwide. Material cycles of a circular economy are gaining in prominence - and become an important field of action for the print and packaging industry. The drupa world tour will take up these topics and show the exhibitors' approaches to solutions.”

Embrace the future! With this motto, drupa 2020 is on course for an innovative and fascinating future. We are setting the sails for this technological journey into the future in three special exhibition areas, in particular. The touchpoint packaging 2020 brings together globally active brand owners with leading machine builders and young talents from the Milan-based NABA Design Academy. Together they are already looking for attractive, inspiring and at the same time sustainable packaging solutions for the future in the run-up to the tradefair. And in combination they will continue this search at the touchpoint with the tradefair visitors. A living future laboratory for the packaging industry that relies on the intelligence of many to take intelligent, appealing packaging to a new level.

The second special area, the touchpoint 3D fab+print, also offers an exciting supporting programme. In a total of 80 lectures, industry experts will highlight the technological and economic potential of industrial 3D printing processes and show interested visitors from the printing and media industry practical application areas. Whether this means the additive production of complex special parts, the decentralised on-demand supply of spare parts for printing and paper technology or individual advertising media from industrial 3D printers. The conference programme is being organised by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) Additive Manufacturing Working Group, in which 150 member companies from all areas of the additive value chain have joined forces. In the working group, as also at the drupa touchpoint 3D fab+print, the young industry has its eyes firmly set on the future: the goals are rapid industrialisation and binding quality standards for the future technology of 3D printing.

As the third hotspot of the journey into the future, drupa visitors in June 2020 will experience the touchpoint textile 2020. This addresses the growth market of textile printing by focusing on the possibilities of networked 4.0 process chains. To this end, the German Institute for Textile and Fibre Research (DITF) is coordinating the drupa MICROFACTORY - a fully networked integrated process chain from design to finishing - with industrial partners from the exhibitor side as part of the touchpoint. This will present new possibilities of digitisation and direct customer integration, for example in the form of 3D clothing simulations with direct data transfer in Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR). The integration of digital textile printing, cutting and colour management in a networked ready-made system will also be addressed. Such networked production chains will enable the textile industry to react even faster and more specifically to customer wishes and trends in the future. Thus, the touchpoint textile 2020 will be technologically pointing the way to a future without shelf wares. Because whoever can integrate the specific demand of customers directly into the design thanks to networking right up to the selling points will be in a position to serve markets optimally with a minimum use of resources.
