Mimaki has announced the acquisition of Italian company La Meccanica Costruzione Tessili-S.P.A.

La Meccanica S.p.A. manufactures inspection and packing machines for various types of fabrics. The company offers compact inspection machines, production inspection machines, packing machines for rolls and packs, machines for fabric predisposition, special machines, and ink-jet printers. Its primary applications are in the field of elastic fabric, Lycra, and knitted fabrics, as well as for woven fabrics and technical fabrics (PVC, polyuretans, and synthetic grass).

The objective of the purchase, according to Mimaki’s president, Hisayuki Kobayashi is simply to expand its already strong market share in the growing textile printing industry. He said in a statement, “We are aiming to acquire the manufacturing knowhow of digital print devices and brand power to give a boost to our existing products, and improve our competitiveness in the textile inkjet printer industry in Europe and the world.”

Apart from the obvious advantages that this acquisition will give Mimaki, especially at the top end of the textile printing industry, no further information has been provided by Mimaki at this stage.
