GJS Machinery today announced the winning entries to its ‘So You Think You Can Sublimate’ competition. Australia’s first national dye sublimation competition.
“The absolutely phenomenal response from the local dye sublimation community and a flurry of last minute entries meant that judging and announcing the winning entries took slightly longer than anticipated” said Greg Stone, Director, GJS Machinery. “We have simply been blown away be the calibre, creativity and commercial applications shown in all the entries. It truly showcases the versatility of the dye sublimation process and the talented people working in the industry right here in Australia and New Zealand” Stone concluded.
So without further ado, the winning entries are as follows:
WINNING ENTRY: Janet Hutchison (her winning entries are displayed below)
PRIZE: SubliJet-E 9700 44” Dye Sublimation System - VALUED AT $10,000!

- Epson Stylus Pro 9700 Printer
- George Knight 16” x 20” (406 x 508mm) swing-away heat transfer press
- Supply of quality Sawgrass inks
Judge’s comments: “Janet’s entries showed exceptional creativity, use of multiple substrates, included many recycled components, proving that you really can create something from nothing with a little ingenuity. Her creations also had excellent commercial potential with the dye sublimated vase being a particularly stand out creation.”
FIRST RUNNER UP: Andy Faulkner
PRIZE: $500 to spend online in the GJS store
Judge’s comments: “Andy’s entry really showed what can be achieved using multiple substrates and what dye sublimation printers can offer their customers in terms of complete corporate branding solutions.”
SECOND RUNNER UP: Steven Cottee
PRIZE: $200 to spend online in the GJS store
Judge’s comments: “We’d never seen a dye sublimated life vest until now! Steven’s creation really showed that with a little creativity you can open up entire new markets and avenues of revenue. We can only image the scuba diving, boating and water-skiing organisations that will knocking at his door for these personalised life preserves!”
