It's the Awards Season and the surprise event was the ProPrint magazine 'Top50' Awards held at Sydney's Shangri-La Ballroom at The Rocks. Around 350 industry people gathered there for a glittering evening hosted by Sam McCool of PacPrint fame and with Durst as the major sponsor and a raft of who's-who sponsors supporting them. Many of the awards went to wide-format related print houses, including the #1 spot to Keith Ferrel of Cactus Imaging. Andy McCourt was there.

Avery Dennison Corporation said net sales for its third quarter ended October 1, 2022 increased by 11.8% to $2.3 billion - “despite ongoing inflationary pressures, currency headwinds and increasing economic uncertainty” - with earnings per share (EPS) up 38%. Label and Graphic Materials sales increased 12% to $1.5 billion.

Canon also reported increased sales in its production printing business compared with the previous year, due to strong sales of its varioPRINT iX series of high-speed cut-sheet colour inkjet presses. But overall Printing Unit profit was down due to a decline in non-hardware sales.

The Print & Visual Communication Association (PVCA) confirmed the appointment of Kellie Northwood as its chief executive officer following the recent merger with The Real Media Collective. Northwood is the first woman to lead the peak printing industry association in its 133-year history.

Digital textile printer manufacturer Kornit Digital has released its second Impact Report that outlines the company’s aim to “transform the world of fashion and textiles into one that is more sustainable.” Kornit recorded a 39% reduction in hazardous waste in 2021 and a 57% reduction in non-hazardous waste.
