Wide Format Online (WFOL) attended the Canon Wide Format Innovation Day, morning session at Canon’s Ann Street showroom in Brisbane on Wednesday 1st November 2017.

The penultimate session of a month-long road show that commenced in Melbourne on 20th September 2017, its focus was on current and future trends, technology and applications. In talking about trends, Garry Muratore, Product Manager of Canon Display Graphics, reflected that print is no longer about compromise, it’s about saying ‘yes’ to exploring bold ideas and exploring new opportunities, several such examples were highlighted.

Fresh from its debut at this year’s PacPrint, the Oce Colorado 1640, according to Phil Dowling (National Sales Manager, Display Graphics) “is the world’s fastest 64” roll to roll printer”. Using the new Canon UVgel ink, the Colorado 1640 provides fast production speed, reliable, automated and unattended printing, low cost of operation and the ability to print on a wide range of roll medias.

The Colorado 1640 unit on display, whilst it has done many kilometres during its Australian road show, having travelled to Brisbane via; Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney did not miss a beat. Running at speeds almost double the “production” speeds of non UVgel roll to roll printers, the output quality was exceptional.

Also on display was the Oce Arizona 2200 series of printers. Unlike the Colorado 1640, the Arizona has been servicing the market for over 10 years with upwards of 6000 install around the world. A true flatbed, UV curable printer, it continues to provide quality results on rigid media.

The final piece of the innovation day was the Océ ProCut. The Océ ProCut Software (running on Zünd hardware) stands alone by offering a single, fully-integrated workflow with a step-by-step approach. It guides operators from prepress through finishing, regardless of the job, printer or RIP. With an extensive range including the; 1600, 2500 and 3200 series and each with an array of tools and configurations Canon believes there is a model to suit any organisation.
