Does anybody know if liquid lamination over normal Dye ink prints will last outdoors??

How long will it last outdoors?
Are UV inks really needed??

Wanting to do some signage for a real estate agent of mine and was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this question...

Muchly appreciated...

As someone who believed for many years that dye could be made to outlast pigment or solvent, I can tell you outright that you are wasting your time trying to avoid the effects of outdoors.

The reason is that dye is just that dye, not pigment or solvent. You can extend the life of a dye print outdoors by laminating it or spraying it with clear 'paint' but only for a limited time.

Sunlight will bleach dye colours. A couple of years ago I ran some tests against laminated and lacquered prints on Poly Prop (pull up banner material)and canvas I got a year from the film laminated (Canon) pigment ink print, 5 months unprotected.

The HP dye print lasted 3 months laminated and less than a month unprotected. It began to wash off the unprotected region when it rained.

The days of dye ink for professional use are over. At one time the colours were more vibrant than pigment. No more. Today's 8 and 12 colour pigment ink printers are better by a mile. They don't come close to Eco-sol for lasting ability outside but for indoors, they are excellent.

Sorry to disillusion you but at least it might save you wasting money.
When I started out, everyone wanted someone with more experience. Now I have it, they all want someone younger. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have picked up a brush!
