Hi all, my first post and its a question.
we have a lazer cutter here @ RMIT where i teach screen printing. We want to cut aluminium, but wonder if there is a coating we need to put on the surface? perhaps we need a larger power cutter? any thoughts?
Hi Razor Red,
I work with Alfex CNC Australia and we supplied RMIT with the laser you are asking about.
You are correct in that you would need a more powerful laser if you wanted to cut aluminium. The CO2 laser you have is ideal for cutting materials such as plastics, timbers, textiles etc but its unable to cut any metal.
However you can create a black mark on the surface of aluminium (and some other metals) using that special paste/coating you mentioned.
You can find more information on what is possible with your laser at
i am also very interested in getting some design projects cut in aliminium sheet with laser, if anybody here could recommend any companys in the melbourne area that provide this service at fair and competitive rates please leave any links or contact information here (or pm me)thanks in advance for anybody who can assist gary
