hi all - newb to here

does anyone thing UV inkjets (like acuity, arizona, ion, mimki etc etc) are good enough or could be set up to do "contract quality proofing' for packaging on stock board? (we ONLY print on cardboard)

i currently have a UV - trying to get rid of it (reasons are good - machine is not!) and looking to solve 2 problems in one go.

if you think any uv inkjet is good enough, which machine is accurate enough, which rip do you think should drive it and how would i go about setting it up to match our 2 5 colour komori B1 presses

we also have a large UV project on foamex - thats another story

thanks in advance

I don't think any uv is at the stage of Colour accurate proofing. The type of machine you would be after is a machine with colour gamut expanding inks eg. Red, green and blue and the extra virtual colours eg light magenta, light cyan, Light black etc

UV machine usually are limited to 6 colours and only print at 600-720dpi
The technology just isn't there.

I suggest switching to a pigment based machine epson 9880 is a fairly good machine for proofing and you will be able to simulate stock colour but only on proofing paper.

I feel for you there is nothing out there for your market.

I would recommend efi colour proof for a rip as you can use it for proofing to iso standards but it can double as a production machine for your foamex.

Hi,
We are doing a lot of work in this area at present and getting good results and feedback from the market.

We had a UV inkjet printer on our stand at PacPrint for the purpose - we have called it Realproof - see the DES website www.des-pl.com.au for more info.

The issues are: colour gammut of the inks, resolution and the RIP you have to drive it.

Please contact me if you need more information.

Regards,
Ian

thanks folks - appreciated

am going to look into an acuity being run by colorgate with the proofing module - had a heads-up results were pretty good

granted the acuity has just cmyk (i think some recipe of acuity may have more inks), but we'll test a few pantones and see how well it does

so - for any developers out there - NEW MARKET ALERT!!!!!!!

hello - thanks for the info on the Realproof

looks great - the issue for me with THAT machine is size - we are B1 printers and regularly do B1 size cartons - don't fancy making a bigger machine do ya?

Just read your requirement. Check out the JF Series Inkjet printers.

You can drive them with EFI Colorproof XF for mission critiacl proofing color which include Pantone color libraries.
